CHECK MATE

A  couple of hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls  to the ground. He doesn’t seem to be breathing his eyes are rolled back in his head. The other guy whips out his mobile and dials triple-o . he gasp to the operator ; my friend is dead! what can I do?

           The operator in the calm, soothing voice, say, “just take it easy.... I can help... first , let’s make sure he’s dead ..”

There is a short silence. then a shot rings out. The guy voice comes back on the line. .”Okey, now what?

คำว่า checkmate คำนี้ ใช้ในการเล่นหมากรุก เวลาไล่คู่ต่อสู้จนกระดาน  ก็จะพูดคำนี้

แต่ในที่นี้ หมายถึง  check แปลว่าตรวจสอบ mate แปลว่าเพื่อน ในที่นี้คือ ตรวจเพื่อน

เป็นการเล่นคำเพื่อให้สงสัย

 The other guy whips out his mobile  เพื่อนที่ไปด้วยก็คว้ามือถือทันที  whips คำนี้ แปลว่า ตวัดแส้เควี้ยวเลย ใช้คำนี้ก็เพื่อสร้างจินตนาการณ์ว่าคว้ามือถืออย่างรวดเร็ว

แล้วก็กด 000  ออสเตรเลีย เวลาเรียกรถพยาบาล หรือ เรียกตำรวจ กด 000

ส่วน อเมริกา จะกด 911

แล้วก็พูดอย่าระร่าระลักว่า เพื่อนผมตายแล้ว ผมจะทำอย่างไรดี.

ใจเย็นๆ เสียงนุ่มนวลปลอบใจจาก โอเปอร์เรเตอร์ ผมช่วยคุณได้ แต่อันดับแรก คุณต้องแน่ใจว่าเพื่อนคุณตายแล้ว "let’s make sure he’s dead .. คำพูดแบบนี้ เป็นคำพูดที่ติดปาก ในใจเค้าหมายถึงว่า มาตรวจดูให้แน่ใจว่าเพื่อนคุณตายจริงหรือเปล่า

 The guy voice comes back on the line. .”Okey, now what? เสียงของเค้า กลับมาที่โทรศัพท์อีก เรียบร้อยแระ แล้วยังไงต่อ  Okey โอกี้ ตัวนี้ ก็คือ OK นั่นเอง
