แต่ถึงอย่างนั้นก็ยังได้ยินเสียงตุ๊บอยู่ดีนั่นแหละ

          A truck driver is heading down the highway when he sees a priest at the side of the road trying to hitch a ride. Feeling it is his Christian duty, he stops to give the
priest a lift.
A short time later he sees a banker with a briefcase on the side of the road and aims his truck at him.

            At the last second, he thinks of the priest with him and realises he can’t run over the banker, so he swerves, but he hears a thump anyway.
Looking back as he drives on, he doesn’t see anything. He begins to apologise for his behaviour to the priest. “I’m sorry, Father,” he says. “I barely missed that banker at the side of the road.”
But the priest says, “Don’t worry, son. I got him with my door.”

when he sees a priest เมื่อเขาเห็นนักบวช

 at the side of the road  ยืนอยู่ข้างถนน

 trying to hitch a ride. พยายามโบกรถขออาศัยไปด้วย

Feeling it is ความรู้สึกของ

his Christian duty, การเป็นชาวคริสต์ที่ดีของเขา

he stops  เขาหยุดรถ

 to give the priest a lift.เ พื่อรับรับนักบวชไปด้วย
A short time later  เวลาผ่านไปไม่นานนัก

 he sees a banker เขาก็เห็นนายธนาคาร

with a briefcase ถือกระเป๋าเจมส์บอนด์

 on the side of the road ยืนอยู่ข้างถนน

and aims his truck at him. เขาก็เลยขับรถพุ่งเข้าหา

            At the last second, ในวินาทีสุดท้ายนั้น

he thinks of เขาก็นึกถึง

 the priest with him หลวงพ่อที่นั่งมาด้วย

and realises แล้วก็เกิดความรู้สึก

 he can’t run over the banker, ว่าไม่ควรขับทับนายธนาคารคนนั้น

so he swerves, ด้วยเหตุนี้เขาจึงหักหลบ

but he hears a thump anyway. แต่ถึงอย่างนั้นก็ยังได้ยินเสียงตุ๊บอยู่ดีนั่นแหละ

Looking back  มองกระจกหลัง ( อันนี้ย่อมาจาก looking back mirror)

as he drives on, ในขณะที่เขาขับไปข้างหน้า

he doesn’t see anything. มองไม่เห็นอะไร

He begins to เขาก็เริ่ม

apologise สาธยายขอโทษ

for his behaviour  ถึงพฤติกรรมที่ทำลงไป

 to the priest. กับหลวงพ่อ

“I’m sorry, Father,” ผมต้องขอโทษหลวงพ่อ

 he says. เขาบอก

“I barely missed  that banker   ผมหวุดหวิดจะขนนายธนาคาร ( ประโยคนี้ แสดงความรู้สึกได้สองอย่างคือ ตั้งใจชนแล้วพลาด อีกอย่างคือ ไม่ได้ตั้งใจชนแต่เป็นอุบัติเหตุ)

at the side of the road.” ที่ยืนอยู่ข้างถนน

But the priest says, แต่กลับได้ยินหลวงพ่อบอกว่า

 “Don’t worry, son. ไม่ต้องห่วง ลูกเอ๊ย

 I got him with my door.” หลวงพ่อซัดมันด้วยประตูข้างที่หลวงพ่อนั่งเนี๊ยะไปแล้ว
