Picture perfect
A man gets a knock at his front door. He opens up to two cops, one of whom inquires if he’s married before asking to see a picture of his wife.
“No worries!” he says, pulling a photo out of his wallet.
The same policeman looks carefully at the picture, then his colleague before turning back to the man to say, “I’m sorry, sir...but we have to inform you that your wife has been hit by a truck.”
The man laughs, “I know...but she’s a great laugh, cooks me dinner and lets me go to the pub on Friday nights!”

 คำๆนี้เคยเป็นชื่อหนัง  Picture Perfect (1997) ที่ Jennifer Aniston เล่น คนเขียนเอามาตั้งขื่อนี้ ล้อเลียน

A man ไอ้หนุ่มคนหนึ่ง

 gets a knock มีคนเคาะ

at his front door. ประตูหน้าบ้านเขา

 He opens up เขาเปิดประตูออกมา

 to two cops,ก็เจอเข้ากับตำรวจสองคน

 one of whom หนึ่งในสองคนนั้น

inquires ก็ถามว่า

 if he’s married เขาแต่งงานหรือยัง

 before asking ก่อนที่จะขอ

 to see a picture ดูภาพ

 of his wife. ภรรยาของเค้า
“No worries!” ไม่เป็นไรครับ

he says, เขาบอก

 pulling a photo ดึงเอารูปใบหนึ่ง

 looks carefully มองแบบพิจาณารอบคอบ

then จากนั้น

turning back ก็เงยหน้า

to the man ไปที่ชายคนนั้น

to say, เพื่อบอกว่า

 “I’m sorry, sir...ผมต้องขอโทษคุณ

but แต่ว่า

we have to inform you เราต้องขอบอกกับคุณ

that ว่า

your wife has been hit by a truck.” เมียคุณโดนรถบันทุกชน
The man laughs, ไอ้หนุ่มหัวเราะก๊าก

“I know... ผมรู้ๆ

but she’s a great laugh, แต่ว่า เห็นเธอทีไร ต้องหัวเราะขี้แตกขี้แตน (great laugh ตรงกับภาษาไทยว่าหัวเราะขี้แตกขี้แตนหรือหัวเราะฟันหักทำนองนั้น)

cooks me dinner เธอทำอาหารเย็นให้ผมกิน

 

and lets me go แถมยังอนุญาตให้ผมไป

to the pub ที่ผับ

             การที่จะขำเรื่องนี้ เราต้องเข้าใจศัพท์สองคำเสียก่อน คือ metaphor    เม๊ตตาฟอร์ ที่แปลว่าอุปมาอุปมัย และ literally ลิ๊ตเตอรัลลี่ ที่แปลว่าจริงๆนะ หรือเรื่องจริง

your wife has been hit by a truck ถ้าเป็น เม๊ตตาฟอร์ก็หมายความว่า เมียคุณหน้าตาน่าเกลียดมาก น่าเกลียด นี่ วัดระดับได้ตั้งแต่โดนรถจักยานชน รถเก๋งชน ยันไปถึงโดนรถบันทุกชน

ถ้าเป็น literally ก็แปลว่า เมียคุณเกิดอุบัติเหตุโดนรถบันทุกชนจริงๆ  literally = really = actually  ตรงกันข้ามกับ metaphor
